From Germany to Spain: Search and placement of highly qualified German-speaking IT experts across European borders.
WATA Factory is a software consulting firm based in Andalusia that provides German companies with qualified yet affordable IT staff. To attract long-term German management talent in the competitive IT market during growth phases, WATA Factory relies on the recruiting expertise of Riverstate. The search is even more difficult for the Jerez de la Frontera-based company because candidates must be willing to emigrate – and the best among them can hardly escape offers from large companies. German Tiscar Lorenzo has learned the hard way in the past that a new hire doesn’t necessarily mean that qualified employees are future-proof. “There was always the danger that new employees would move on to larger companies after just one year with us, promising more security and higher salaries,” says the founder and managing director of WATA Factory. “That was very dangerous for my company because it quickly led to a loss of expertise.”
To retain this expertise at WATA and attract top IT specialists from Germany to Andalusia in the long term, Lorenzo is counting on Riverstate’s support. However, the decision to turn to a recruiting firm wasn’t without reservations: “I had worked with other headhunters before Riverstate , and their approach was less professional,” says German.
“I had the impression that they weren’t really familiar with the IT market, but still wanted the contract. So I received few or no proposals, but I had to pay a lot beforehand.”

After the contract was awarded, German was able to relax until the first proposals arrived about two weeks later. “Riverstate has a very good selection process, so you get a briefed list of candidates in bite-sized pieces,” says German. “We always receive a very good summary with suggestions and Riverstate’s assessment, and that usually turns out to be correct.”
The new employees that German met from the Riverstate portfolio and eventually hired into his company fulfill his expectations – and those of his clients – 100 percent.

WATA Factory is currently still growing and expects to hire approximately 50 new employees in 2020. Riverstate will continue to be an integral part of the company’s strategy for German-speaking leadership positions: “Especially for German-speaking candidates who want to take on management roles with us, I see no reason to conduct my own search,” says German. “I will continue to work with Riverstate in the future.”
At the same time, he’s already thinking about ways to further strengthen the collaboration. “Perhaps we’ll invest more in university marketing to reach out directly to students and offer them their first experiences with us after graduation,” says German. “We’ve developed a wonderful collaboration with Riverstate, which we’ll continue to expand in the future.”
