Too broadly positioned for effective recruiting?

The broad range of services offered by ISW-Technik, which makes the company so versatile, presents a particular challenge from a recruiting perspective. The construction and building services engineering division alone, which is responsible for structural engineering, civil engineering, and construction execution, encompasses countless job profiles—including roofers, insulators, and scaffolders.

“We recently added up the numbers and discovered that there are almost 100 different job profiles at ISW-Technik,” explains Managing Director Andre Wiechmann. “And with 440 employees, many of these job profiles are unique to the company. So we need a lot of specialists, and we have to find them first.”

The company invests a lot of energy in finding these skilled workers: “Our internal HR team uses diverse strategies to attract new talent to our company,” says Michaela Schmatta, the company’s Head of HR. “Of course, we use traditional recruiting methods like advertisements, but we also have a strong presence at universities and try to cultivate our young talent ourselves with apprentices and dual-study students.”

Headhunting for craftsmen: No problem with Riverstate

However, with around 100 different job profiles, not every search is successful. The company had particular difficulty filling a shift worker position in the EMR (electrical, instrumentation, and control technology) field.

“At the time, we couldn’t imagine approaching the search for a skilled tradesperson through a headhunter,” says Wiechmann. “In addition, experience has shown that recruitment agencies prefer to focus on higher-level positions. Riverstate is more pragmatic and was willing to start looking for a skilled tradesperson for us – and it worked out wonderfully.”

Riverstate finds the needles in the haystack

Riverstate visited ISW Technik in Wiesbaden to learn more about the company and the position it was seeking. During a tour and employee interviews, the Riverstate consultant learned what makes the company tick, what environment potential applicants can expect, and what the surrounding area has to offer.

“We thought the setup day was a great success,” says Schmatta. “Riverstate puts its employee perspective on things and really explores what the added value is for employees and why talented people should apply to us. You can tell that someone has put a lot of thought into this.”

EMR shift worker in just 3 months

Riverstate used the extensive research on setup day to optimally showcase the advertised EMR position and attract the interest of suitable applicants. The preparatory work quickly paid off:

“The EMR shift worker position was a position for which we tried in vain for over nine months to even receive an application,” says Wiechmann. “Riverstate managed to find a suitable employee in just three months, who is still with the company today – despite the shift model, which complicates things even further.”

Fresh wind: 5 more line-ups with Riverstate

The EMR craftsman was just the beginning: Since the initial appointment, ISW-Technik has gained five additional employees through Riverstate. These include one employee in the building services engineering (TGA) department, two people in lightning protection, and one employee each in the engineering and automation departments.

“Just from this list, you can see that not every company has as many job profiles as we do,” says Wiechmann. “A recruitment agency that helps us successfully fill such a broad range of positions needs to be able to operate in a diverse manner. And that’s the case at Riverstate.”

Speed ​​and exchange are the key

The ISW-Technik team will continue to call on Riverstate when it comes to filling challenging positions. Managing Director Wiechmann emphasizes three things in particular:

Recruitment firms and their clients must set realistic goals, because in times of staff shortages, talent can’t be magically recruited. When a suitable candidate becomes available, they must act quickly and be flexible to secure the person. And if a placement does take a little longer, open and regular communication is essential.

“Speed ​​and good communication are key, and this is where good recruitment agencies differ from less good ones,” says Wiechmann. “Of course, every position is different, but with Riverstate, things have moved very quickly on several occasions. That’s why we will continue to work with Riverstate in the future.”
